There are a number of gaping flaws with Dr. Jyotsna Bhattacharya's presentation, which is nothing more than a politically correct rant. 1. CDC grand rounds 2017 never mentioned anything about 'race' or 'racial inequities' in their findings. Dr. Bhattacharya here is falsely correlating scientific data with socio-political narratives in order to pander to a certain political cabal. This charade of falsely contextualising a scientific study to bolster political rhetoric isn't something new but it is and always will be grossly unethical as a practicing physician. 2. Black women do indeed have much higher maternal mortality rates. But what Dr. Bhattacharya here conveniently fails to mention is that a significantly large number of black women are single mothers working multiple low paying jobs in order to support their familes. This additional data shapes our perspective more uniquely in such discourse and brings us to the realization that a lack of structural, societal support systems within the black community is a major contributing element, and correlates more directly with cultural factors and not the politics of race or racial inequities. 3. This rant is full of politically charged buzzwords. To suggest that American Healthcare incorporates retributive injustice and therefore marginalizes the Black community is a downright lie and it constitutes a false narrative. The economics of Healthcare is the limiting factor that determines to what extent individual families and entire communities can have access to healthcare. And this doesn't exclusively apply to the black community alone. That members of the Black community aren't economically empowered enough to access and afford the best of American Healthcare clearly indicates that the root of the problem lies elsewhere, a far cry from what Dr. Jyotsna Bhattacharya here is trying to imply for obvious reasons. Nice try Dr.Jyotsna Bhattacharya, but its high time that you stopped using the black community as a political cash cow in order to impress your peers in academia when you've never been inclusive in your dealings and have always supported the bullying and marginalization of people outside your social circle. 😏😌

id invite these physicians to actually go into the field with paramedics and EMS medical directors that have to deal with these conditions first hand and not with one stroke of the brush make such generalizations.

As a practicing Physician myself I have never "contextualized my interactions" with a patient based on race or ethnicity. Rather, my conversations with patients take shape based on more subjective factors such as : 1. Is the patient financially impoverished ? 2. Does the patient have loved ones at home to reach out to for their problems, let alone take care of them ? 3. Is the patient a victim of any psychological trauma, abuse etc. 4. Does the patient's geographic location give him or her easy access to a healthcare facility ? ......And many others. I have never looked at the colour of a patient's skin and decided whether or not he or she deserves more or even less of my empathy and compassion. For me, healthcare isn't a political game of "show-and-tell". It's a lifelong endeavour catered somewhat differently to every individual based on his or her varied circumstances. What Dr. Jyotsna Bhattacharya is selling here is a very insidious form of racial profiling, and the worst thing about this is that she is using 'academic license' to do so. The crime is compounded even further when she applies these standards (or rather 'Double' Standards) to children. If you want to have an honest discussion on the subject of race when it comes to inequities in healthcare then the real elephant in the room here is the rampant poverty in the Black Community. And if you want to go even further in that discussion, then you would do good to link poverty in the Black Community to yet another elephant in the room, and that being the extraordinarily high rates of SINGLE Motherhood in the Black Community. But of course, the truth here isn't important because Dr. Jyotsna Bhattacharya's intention here is to racebait and virtue signal using popular narrative in order to enhance her professional and public footprint and endear herself to a certain political cabal. Inequities in Healthcare among various demographic groups are closely tied to economics and not racial identiy. When Physicians use academia to indulge in race baiting misadventures it sets a very dangerous precedent as policy makers and elected officials tend to formulate policies based on false racial narratives and not based on genuine economic considerations that are the real basis for the disparities we see today. Dr. Jyotsna Bhattacharya is a perfect example of someone nurturing a problem. Racism, homophobia, xenophobia all boil down to one common denominator, and that is exclusion; excluding people because they are in some way different from you. You see, Dr. Jyotsna Bhattacharya represents, in large part, much of the cultural charade that is America today ; a paradigm shift from morality to moral grandstanding, a cultural malady due to which one seeks self aggrandizement through incessant false virtue signaling in the presence of elite power players, an opportunistic angst to piggyback on sensitive social issues not for the benefit of the victims who are central to that issue but for the sake of self vested interests ie The typical selfrighteous exercise of holding up a placard that says "BLACK LIVES MATTER", ensuring that people in positions of power take notice, and then going back to the status quo of excluding people, supporting bullies. I disagree with what Vincent is saying, as in Canada, the state with militrized RCMP are intentionally harrassing, terrorizing indigenous communities that stand up and fight against corporations coming on their lands and destroying their lands, and waters.
